Accident insurance
Accident insurance covers occupational and, for many employees, non-occupational accidents through medical benefits and income replacement.
Swiss accident insurance protects employees against occupational accidents and diseases; employees working sufficient hours are also covered for non-occupational accidents. Benefits may include treatment costs, daily allowances, disability or survivors’ pensions and compensation for bodily impairment. Employers arrange coverage and pay at least the occupational accident premium, while non-occupational premiums may be charged to employees. Self-employed persons can often insure voluntarily. Distinguishing accident from illness is important because coverage, cost sharing and responsible insurers differ.
