Administrative decision

An administrative decision is a binding act by an authority that determines rights or obligations in an individual public-law matter.

In Swiss administrative law, an administrative decision applies public law to a specific person or case, for example granting or refusing a permit, ordering compliance, imposing a charge or awarding a benefit. It differs from general legislation because it is individual and concrete, though some decisions address many persons. Valid decisions require competent authority, proper procedure, reasoning where required and respect for the right to be heard. They normally state available remedies and deadlines; if not challenged in time, they may become final and enforceable.
