Arms control
Arms control uses legal limits, licensing, verification and confidence-building measures to reduce risks from weapons and military technology.
Arms control covers treaties, export controls, licensing, stockpile rules, verification and transparency measures concerning weapons and dual-use goods. For Switzerland it matters in neutrality policy, humanitarian law, international security cooperation and the regulation of arms exports. The field differs from disarmament, though both may overlap. Core legal issues include prohibited weapons, end-use controls, brokering, technology transfer, inspections, reporting duties and enforcement against illicit trade or treaty violations.
