Case management

Case management is the structured direction of litigation or arbitration from commencement to decision. It includes timetables, procedural orders, issue narrowing, sequencing of submissions, evidence planning, hearing logistics, settlement windows, and proportionality controls. Swiss courts traditionally combine party presentation with judicial direction, while arbitration often uses procedural conferences and tailor-made calendars. Effective case management reduces delay and cost without compromising the right to be heard. Poor management can create satellite disputes, unequal treatment, or enforcement risks if a party is denied a fair opportunity to present its case.
