Civil law matter
A civil law matter is a private-law dispute or related decision that may be reviewed by the Federal Supreme Court if admissibility conditions are met.
Civil law matters before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court concern private-law disputes such as contracts, torts, property, family, inheritance, company law, debt enforcement, and bankruptcy-related civil questions. The appeal in civil matters is available against qualifying final decisions, subject to standing, time limits, reasoned grievances, and value thresholds in certain monetary disputes. The Court mainly reviews legal issues and applies a restrictive standard to challenges against facts. Some related public decisions may still fall outside this category depending on their legal nature.
