Collective rights management
Collective rights management allows collecting societies to license, collect and distribute remuneration for uses of protected works on behalf of rightholders.
In copyright law, collective rights management centralizes the licensing and enforcement of rights that are difficult to exercise individually, such as public performance, broadcasting, retransmission or private copying remuneration. In Switzerland, approved collecting societies administer certain rights under public supervision and distribute proceeds according to tariffs and distribution rules. Collective management may be mandatory for some remuneration claims and voluntary for others. It balances efficient market access for users with remuneration for authors, performers, producers and other rightholders.
