Conciliation hearing

The conciliation hearing is a core feature of Swiss civil procedure in many disputes. The parties appear before a conciliation authority, which seeks to facilitate settlement and clarify the issues without the full formality of trial. Personal attendance may be required, subject to procedural exceptions. Discussions are aimed at compromise and may result in a binding settlement. If no agreement is reached, the authority may issue an authorization to proceed or, in specific matters, make a proposal or limited decision.
