Domicile

Domicile is a central connecting factor in Swiss civil law. For a natural person, it generally reflects the place of residence combined with the intention to remain there; special rules may apply for persons under protection, spouses, or minors. Domicile helps determine local jurisdiction, applicable private-law rules, registration duties, succession matters, and procedural venues. It differs from mere presence or temporary residence. Legal entities have a registered seat or comparable connecting point rather than a personal domicile in the same sense.
