Harassment

Harassment is unwanted conduct that violates dignity or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, or offensive environment.

In employment, harassment may include sexual harassment, bullying, threats, humiliating comments, exclusion, or repeated intrusive behaviour. Swiss employers have a duty to protect employees’ personality, health, and dignity, and must take appropriate preventive and corrective measures once risks or complaints are known. Sexual harassment is specifically addressed in equality law; other harassment may fall under personality protection, workplace safety duties, criminal law, or data and privacy rules. Documentation, internal reporting, and prompt action are often important, while retaliation against complainants can create further liability.
