High-risk profiling is a Swiss data protection concept concerning automated evaluation of personal characteristics where extensive linking of data creates a high risk for personality or fundamental rights. It may involve behaviour, preferences, economic situation, health or location patterns. The classification matters because stricter transparency, consent or impact-assessment considerations may arise depending on the controller and context. Organisations should examine data scope, sensitivity, effects on individuals and safeguards. Not every segmentation or scoring activity is high-risk profiling; the risk and intensity are decisive.
