Insured event
In Swiss social insurance, the insured event is the fact situation for which coverage exists, such as accident, illness, maternity, invalidity, unemployment, old age or death. It marks the point at which the competent insurer assesses whether statutory conditions, waiting periods, causal links and coordination rules are met. The event is not always a single date; for illness or invalidity it may develop over time. Correctly identifying it matters for applicable law, limitation periods, responsibility between insurers and the start of benefits.
