Irreparable harm

Irreparable harm is a key admissibility concept in Swiss Federal Supreme Court procedure, especially for appeals against interim decisions. It means a legal prejudice that a later successful appeal against the final decision could not fully remove. Mere delay, inconvenience, or additional costs usually do not suffice, although context matters. The harm must normally be shown by the appellant with concrete reasoning. The concept is strict because the Federal Supreme Court generally prefers to review cases once a final decision has been rendered.
