Matter of public law
A matter of public law concerns state action, administrative decisions, public-law rights, or regulatory duties subject to public-law review.
In Federal Supreme Court procedure, public-law matters cover disputes arising from administrative law, constitutional law, tax, planning, immigration, social security, and other fields where public authorities act under public law. The decisive issue is often the legal nature of the relationship and decision, not merely the identity of a public body. The appeal in public-law matters is subject to admissibility limits, exclusions, standing rules, and reasoning requirements. It commonly seeks review of final decisions by cantonal authorities or federal administrative courts.
