Minimum wage laws
Minimum wage laws set legally binding wage floors, whether nationally, regionally or through generally binding collective agreements.
Switzerland has no single nationwide statutory minimum wage for all workers. Wage floors may arise from cantonal minimum wage laws, collective employment agreements, normal employment contracts in specific sectors, or agreements declared generally binding. Their scope, amount and enforcement differ by canton, occupation and industry. Employers must also respect rules on equal pay, working time and abusive underpayment where applicable. Comparatively, Swiss minimum wage protection is fragmented and combines public regulation with social-partner bargaining rather than one uniform federal rate.
