Minority

Minority is the legal status of a person below the age of majority, with limited capacity to act and protection through parental or guardianship rules.

In Swiss private law, a minor is a person who has not yet reached majority, normally 18 years of age. Minors have legal personality and capacity to hold rights, but their capacity to create legal effects through their own acts is restricted. Everyday acts, strictly personal rights, consent of legal representatives, and capacity of judgement are decisive factors. The rules protect minors while allowing gradual participation in legal life, especially in family, contract, medical and data-protection contexts.
