Neighboring rights

Neighboring rights protect performances, recordings, broadcasts and certain productions related to works but distinct from copyright in the work itself.

Neighboring rights, also called related rights, protect contributions that disseminate or invest in cultural content without necessarily creating a copyright work. In Swiss law they cover, in particular, performing artists, producers of phonograms and audiovisual fixations, broadcasting organizations and certain photographs or editions depending on the situation. These rights grant control over uses such as recording, reproduction, distribution, broadcasting or making available, within statutory limits and terms. They coexist with copyright: using a song recording may require rights from the composer, lyricist, performers and producer.
