Noise protection
Legal and technical measures limiting harmful or annoying noise from traffic, industry, construction and other sources.
Noise protection aims to prevent or reduce harmful or disturbing sound in planning, permitting and operation of installations. In Switzerland it is shaped by federal environmental law and technical exposure limits, with cantonal and communal roles in enforcement and spatial planning. It affects roads, railways, airports, industry, restaurants, construction sites and housing near noisy areas. Authorities may require source control, operating restrictions, barriers, façade insulation or zoning solutions. In building projects, compliance with noise limits and allocation of noise sensitivity levels can determine whether housing or other sensitive uses are permissible.
