Occupational pension
Occupational pensions form Switzerland’s second pillar, supplementing first-pillar benefits for retirement, disability and death.
The Swiss occupational pension system, often called BVG/LPP in its mandatory part, is linked to employment and administered by pension institutions. It aims to maintain an appropriate standard of living together with the first pillar. Coverage, insured salary, employer and employee contributions, vested benefits and benefit levels depend on statutory minimum rules and the pension fund’s regulations. Occupational pensions provide retirement assets or pensions and may also cover disability and survivors’ benefits. Leaving employment, divorce, home ownership withdrawals and cross-border moves require careful handling.
