Payment services

Payment services include account transfers, card payments, direct debits, e-money-like arrangements, merchant acquiring and technical payment processing. In Switzerland, the regulatory treatment depends on whether the provider accepts public deposits, operates a payment system, issues payment instruments, holds client funds or merely supplies technology. Anti-money-laundering duties, sanctions screening, data protection, outsourcing, operational resilience and consumer transparency are key. Unlike the EU, Switzerland has no identical PSD2 regime, but open banking and instant payment developments influence contracts, standards and risk allocation.
