Pension entitlement

Pension entitlement is the legally enforceable right to recurring benefits once the statutory or contractual conditions are fulfilled.

In Swiss social insurance and occupational benefits, pension entitlement arises when the insured person or survivors meet the relevant conditions for a recurring benefit. Examples include old-age, survivors’, disability and accident pensions. The entitlement depends on insured status, contribution or residence requirements, the insured event, degree of invalidity or age, and coordination with other benefits. It must be distinguished from the amount of the pension, payment start date and administrative decision confirming the right. Entitlements may later change if legally relevant circumstances change.
