Player contracts
Agreements between athletes and clubs or teams governing employment or services, remuneration, transfer rights, conduct and termination.
Player contracts set the legal and commercial terms of an athlete’s engagement by a club, team or organiser. They typically address salary, bonuses, duration, image rights, medical duties, training obligations, discipline, injury, insurance, termination and dispute resolution. In Switzerland, the classification as employment or another service relationship affects mandatory labour protections, social security, tax and jurisdiction. In organised sport, federation rules may add registration requirements, transfer windows, eligibility rules and sanctions. Cross-border contracts must also handle governing law, arbitration clauses, immigration status, minors, agents and compliance with competition and integrity rules.
