Glossary / Debt Enforcement & Bankruptcy

Realization of assets

In Swiss debt enforcement and bankruptcy, realization means selling or otherwise converting assets into cash after seizure, pledge enforcement or bankruptcy administration. Methods may include auction, private sale where permitted, or collection of receivables. The competent office must protect value, respect third-party rights and follow procedural safeguards. The proceeds, after costs and secured entitlements, feed the distribution to creditors. Timing and method matter because they affect both the debtor’s residual position and creditors’ recovery.
