Resource nationalism

State measures seeking greater control or value from natural resources, including ownership limits, taxes, local-content rules or expropriation risks.

Resource nationalism describes policies through which a state increases control over minerals, hydrocarbons, water or other strategic resources. Measures may include state participation, export restrictions, renegotiation of concessions, higher royalties, local-content requirements, nationalisation or stronger permitting controls. The concept is less prominent in Switzerland than in major extractive economies, but it matters for Swiss investors, traders, lenders and arbitration planning. Legal analysis focuses on constitutional property protections, administrative law, investment treaties, stabilisation clauses, sanctions and environmental or social licensing. It also raises questions of energy security and sovereignty over critical raw materials.
