Revision before the Federal Supreme Court

An extraordinary procedure asking the Federal Supreme Court to reopen or correct its judgment on narrowly defined grounds.

Revision before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court is an extraordinary remedy directed against a judgment that is already final at that level. It is not a second appeal and cannot be used simply to reargue the case. Grounds are narrowly limited, such as serious procedural defects, relevant newly discovered facts or evidence, or specific conflicts with other binding decisions, depending on the procedural setting. A request for revision must identify the ground precisely and respect the applicable time limits. If granted, the Court reopens the matter to the extent necessary.
