Satisfaction

Satisfaction is monetary or symbolic redress for serious non-pecuniary harm, such as pain, distress or injury to personality.

In Swiss tort law, satisfaction refers to compensation for non-material harm where the injury is sufficiently serious. It may be awarded for physical or psychological suffering, death of a close person, or grave infringement of personality rights. The amount is assessed equitably, considering the severity and duration of suffering, fault, circumstances of the event and comparable practice. Satisfaction is distinct from compensation for financial loss and is usually modest compared with some foreign punitive or pain-and-suffering awards.
