Sick pay

Sick pay is continued remuneration owed when an employee cannot work because of illness, subject to Swiss rules and insurance arrangements.

Swiss employment law provides continued salary when an employee is prevented from working by illness through no fault of their own, if the employment relationship meets the relevant conditions. The duration and amount depend on length of service, contractual terms, collective agreements and any daily sickness benefits insurance. Many employers replace statutory continuation with insurance providing a percentage of salary for a defined period. Employees must inform the employer and may need a medical certificate. Abuse, incapacity disputes and coordination with accident, disability or maternity benefits often require careful handling.
