Space law

Space law governs activities in outer space, including state responsibility, private launches, liability, registration, remote sensing and space-resource uses.

Space law combines public international law, national licensing and sector regulation. Core issues include peaceful use of outer space, state supervision of private operators, liability for damage, registration of space objects, spectrum coordination and environmental concerns such as debris mitigation. Switzerland is relevant through research institutions, satellite technology companies, international organisations in Geneva and participation in European space programmes. Legal analysis often compares treaty obligations with domestic authorisations, export controls, insurance requirements and commercial contracting for launch, payload, data and services.
