Special needs education

Special needs education in Switzerland includes measures such as remedial teaching, speech therapy, psychomotor therapy, classroom assistance, adapted curricula, special classes or placement in a specialised school. Cantons organise and finance these measures within constitutional and equality-law limits, including the principle that children should receive suitable basic education without discrimination. Decisions usually follow professional assessment and involve parents. Disputes often concern the adequacy of support, integration versus separate schooling, transport, costs and procedural participation.
