Suspensive effect

In Swiss administrative procedure, suspensive effect protects an appellant from immediate implementation of a contested decision while review is pending. It preserves the status quo and prevents irreversible consequences, but it is not absolute. Some appeals have suspensive effect by law, while urgent public interests, safety concerns or statutory rules may justify immediate enforceability. The competent authority or appeal body may confirm, restore or modify the effect through interim procedural orders.
