Telecommunications licensing

In Switzerland, many telecommunications services are subject to notification or sector-specific regulatory duties rather than a traditional individual licence. Separate authorisations remain important where operators use scarce public resources, especially radio frequencies and numbering elements. Licensing rules allocate spectrum, protect technical interoperability, set service and security obligations, and support competition. Comparatively, regimes range from general authorisation models to concession-based systems. Providers must also consider consumer protection, emergency access, data protection, and lawful interception obligations.
