Temporary admission

Temporary admission is a Swiss protection status used when removal is unlawful, unreasonable, or impossible, even if asylum is not granted.

Temporary admission in Switzerland is ordered when a person must leave in principle but removal cannot be carried out because it would be unlawful, unreasonable, or impossible. It is therefore not the same as asylum, but it provides a lawful stay and practical protection, often for people fleeing war, generalized violence, medical hardship, or technical barriers to removal. The status may be reviewed and lifted if conditions change. It affects work, travel, family reunification, and integration rights, with rules that differ from those for recognized refugees with asylum.
