Time limit
A time limit is the period within which a procedural act must be performed to preserve rights or avoid procedural disadvantages.
In Swiss civil procedure, time limits structure litigation by setting deadlines for submissions, appeals, payments of advances, or other acts. They may be fixed by law or by the court. Missing a deadline can lead to loss of the right to act, non-consideration of a filing, or dismissal, subject in limited cases to restoration if the party was not at fault. Calculation, suspension during court holidays, and valid filing methods are therefore central practical issues.
