Work

In Swiss copyright law, a work is an intellectual creation of literature or art with individual character. Protection can cover texts, music, visual art, photographs, films, choreography, architecture, applied art, software and other expressive forms. Ideas, methods, styles and mere facts are not protected as such; protection concerns the concrete expression. No registration is required in Switzerland. The threshold of individuality is assessed case by case and may be modest, but purely routine or banal outputs fall outside copyright. Related rights may protect performances or recordings even where no work is present.
