Workplace accident
A workplace accident is a sudden harmful event linked to employment and triggers accident insurance and employer safety duties.
Swiss law requires most employees to be insured against occupational accidents, and often also non-occupational accidents depending on working time. A workplace accident involves a sudden, involuntary, harmful external factor affecting the body during work or in a work-related context. Benefits may include medical treatment, daily allowances, disability or survivor benefits. Employers must prevent accidents through safe organisation, instruction, equipment, and supervision. Reporting duties and coordination with salary continuation and social insurance are central after an incident.
