Association
An association is a Swiss legal entity formed by persons pursuing a non-economic purpose, often used for clubs, charities and professional bodies.
In Switzerland, an association is created by adopting written statutes expressing a lawful, non-commercial purpose. It acquires legal personality once it has a corporate organization, unless registration is required or chosen. Associations are common for sports clubs, cultural bodies, NGOs and trade groups. They may run ancillary commercial activities, but profit distribution to members is generally inconsistent with the form. The general meeting is typically the highest body, with a committee or board managing day-to-day affairs.
