Building objection

A formal challenge by neighbours or other entitled persons against a building project during the permit procedure.

A building objection is filed during the public notice period for a building application. In Switzerland, standing usually requires a sufficient personal or legally protected interest, often based on proximity and potential impact, although environmental organisations may have special rights in certain matters. The objection may raise breaches of zoning, distance rules, traffic safety, noise, environmental law or procedural requirements. It preserves participation rights and may be followed by an appeal against the permit decision. Deadlines and form requirements are strict and governed by cantonal law.
