Glossary / Data Protection Law

Data subject

The data subject is the person identified or identifiable through the personal data being processed. Swiss law protects natural persons and grants them rights such as access, information, correction, deletion or objection in relevant circumstances. The person need not be a customer or employee; website users, patients, applicants, shareholders or recorded visitors may all be data subjects. Duties towards them depend on the controller’s role, the type of data, the processing purpose and any overriding legal obligations or interests.
