Environmental impact report
A project document assessing significant environmental effects and measures required for environmentally compatible approval.
An environmental impact report forms the factual basis for environmental impact assessment of projects likely to have substantial effects. In Switzerland, it is required for categories of installations defined by federal rules and is integrated into the relevant approval procedure, such as a building, road, energy or industrial permit. The report examines emissions, noise, air, water, soil, nature, landscape, waste and accident risks as relevant. It must show mitigation and compliance with environmental law, but the competent authority remains responsible for the legal assessment and decision.
