Extension of lease
An extension of lease temporarily prolongs a residential or business tenancy when termination would cause undue hardship.
In Swiss tenancy law, a tenant of residential or business premises may request an extension when termination would create hardship not justified by the landlord’s interests. The authority weighs factors such as duration of the tenancy, personal and financial circumstances, housing or business alternatives, and the reasons for termination. An extension does not invalidate the notice; it postpones the end of the tenancy. Requests must be made in time, usually through the tenancy conciliation authority.
