Incapacity to earn
In Swiss social insurance, incapacity to earn focuses on economic consequences of a health impairment. It asks how far the insured person’s earning capacity on the balanced labour market is reduced, after reasonable medical treatment, rehabilitation and occupational integration have been considered. The assessment compares potential income without impairment with realistically achievable income despite impairment. It is distinct from incapacity for work, because a person may be unable to perform a former job yet still capable of earning in another suitable activity.
