Insurance policy
The insurance policy is the written evidence of an insurance contract. It identifies the insurer, policyholder, insured persons or objects, covered risks, sum insured, premium, duration, deductibles, and important exclusions or limitations. In Swiss private insurance, the policy is read together with general and special conditions and any statutory mandatory rules. The policy does not always contain the whole contract, but it is central for proving the agreed cover. If wording is unclear, interpretation focuses on the parties’ agreement, consumer protection rules, and recognised principles for standard terms.
