Insured person

The insured person is the individual whose life, health, liability, property interest, or other risk is covered by an insurance contract.

An insured person is the person to whom the insured risk relates. The insured person may be identical with the policyholder, but often is not, for example in group health, accident, life, liability, or occupational insurance. In Swiss insurance practice, the distinction matters for disclosure, consent, data protection, premium payment, entitlement to benefits, and the right to receive information. Depending on the product, the insured person may have direct rights against the insurer or may benefit through the policyholder or a designated beneficiary. Contract wording and mandatory law determine the position.
