Occupational safety regulations

Occupational safety regulations require employers to prevent workplace accidents and health risks through organization, equipment, training and supervision.

Swiss occupational safety law obliges employers to protect employees’ physical and mental health, assess workplace risks, provide safe equipment, instruct staff and take preventive measures. Duties are enforced through labour inspectorates, accident insurance institutions and sector-specific rules. Employees must cooperate and follow safety instructions, but the employer remains primarily responsible for a safe workplace. The rules cover traditional industrial hazards as well as ergonomics, working time, psychosocial risks and protection of vulnerable workers. Compliance is both a legal and operational responsibility.
