Ordinary procedure
Ordinary procedure is the standard Swiss civil process for claims not assigned to simplified or summary proceedings.
Ordinary procedure is the default structure for many Swiss civil lawsuits, especially more complex or higher-value disputes. It typically begins after any required conciliation phase with a written statement of claim, followed by a statement of defence and, where ordered, a second exchange of briefs. The court may hold preparatory hearings, take evidence and conduct a main hearing before judgment. The procedure is formal: parties must state facts, legal requests and evidence carefully, and late submissions are restricted.
