Personal data

Under Swiss data protection law, personal data covers any information that relates to an identified or identifiable natural person. Identification may be direct, such as a name, or indirect, through identifiers, context or combinations of data. The concept is broad and includes digital records, paper files, images, audio, logs and metadata when they relate to a person. Anonymous data falls outside the concept, but pseudonymised data may remain personal data if re-identification is reasonably possible.
