Public faith of the land register
Protection of good-faith acquirers who rely on the Swiss land register, even where the registered legal position is defective.
In Swiss property law, the land register gives special evidentiary and reliance protection to registered rights. A person who acquires a real right in good faith on the basis of the register is generally protected, although the underlying entry may be materially incorrect. The principle promotes transactional security in dealings with land. It does not protect bad faith, gross negligence, or facts that are apparent outside the register in a way the acquirer must take into account. Corrections remain possible against unprotected parties.
