Public health orders
Public health orders are binding measures issued to prevent or control health risks, such as isolation, closures, vaccination rules or reporting duties.
Public health orders translate statutory powers into concrete measures for individuals, institutions or the public. In Switzerland, responsibilities are shared between Confederation and cantons, especially for communicable diseases, food safety, environmental health and healthcare capacity. Measures may include reporting duties, testing, isolation, restrictions on activities, hygiene requirements or temporary closures. They must rest on a legal basis, pursue a public interest and remain proportionate. Judicial review and procedural safeguards depend on urgency, addressees and cantonal or federal procedure.
