Public procurement

Public procurement covers the planning, tendering, evaluation and award of contracts needed for public tasks. In Switzerland it includes construction projects, IT systems, consulting services, medical supplies, transport services and many other purchases. Depending on value and subject matter, different procedures and publication duties apply. Authorities must define requirements objectively, apply suitability and award criteria transparently, and respect equal treatment of bidders. Procurement differs from ordinary private purchasing because public funds, market access and legal remedies are involved.
