Refugee protection
Legal protection for persons fleeing persecution, serious harm, or conflict, including asylum procedures, status rights, and safeguards against return.
Refugee protection covers the identification, admission and treatment of people who cannot safely rely on their country of origin or habitual residence. It includes fair asylum procedures, recognition of refugee status, protection against refoulement, family unity, basic social rights and, where appropriate, temporary or subsidiary forms of protection. Switzerland applies its national asylum law within the framework of the Refugee Convention, European human rights standards and other international obligations. Protection does not remove all migration controls, but decisions must be individual, lawful and reviewable.
