Right of access

The data subject’s right to learn whether personal data is processed and to receive key information about that processing.

The right of access allows a person to ask a controller whether personal data concerning them is being processed and to obtain information such as the data involved, purposes, recipients and retention logic. In Switzerland it is a core transparency right and usually must be answered without excessive formalities. Limitations may apply, for example to protect overriding interests, third-party rights or legal confidentiality. Organisations should verify identity, search relevant systems and provide intelligible responses rather than raw, unexplained data dumps.
